ART ::

[+] "Becoming" by Ruvan

As one of NYC's hottest up-and-coming photographers, Ruvan Wijesooriya, is on a roll. Hot off of his “Dearest of Dearest” exhibition in NYC [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vbi4LFsdWvk] and "Scene and Herd" in Gothenburg, Sweden, [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GT8P3TJIGvo], he’s coming to show work in L.A. for the first time. His show, “Becoming” will dive deeper into his familiar themes and consist largely of work nobody has seen before.

Not a total stranger to L.A. and its inhabitants, he crashed at The Mansion with LCD Soundsystem when they were recording in L.A. in 2009, resulting in his cover art for their last album. He also shot the cover of Aziz Ansari’s DVD, collaborated with artist Doug Aitken and counts legendary artist Ed Ruscha among those who own his artwork. More recently, one of his photographs was used for The MoCA’s invitation to their Art Basel party. Not bad for someone who doesn’t even have a valid driver’s license.

Ruvan straddles the line between art and commerce, impulsively shooting anything and everything on film with multiple cameras. He plays by his own rules, and is inspired by past and future, not only the moment. The images themselves employ the winning couple of humor and beauty. There is no prejudice to his lens, the pictures are like artifacts, his secret is his archive.

This “Becoming” show in L.A. will offer never-seen-before pictures and a first look at some of his videos. You can expect there will be prints given away for free and some sort of audience involvement or participation, though unannounced and spontaneous, making it more of a happening. At this particular venue, it’s not going to be people scratching their heads wondering if the work is good. In Ruvan’s world, the work just is and the audience is the propellant for exchange and engagement.

BIOGRAPHIES ::

FILTHY RICH ::

“Quite simply, Rich is the most promising DJ and producer of the new generation. He melds minimal with tough funk and marries sweeping atmosphere to spacious tech while still driving the feet – not easy.”
- Tim Sheridan
(http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/timsheridan)

Filthy Rich is an artist and producer who commands respect and whose soul breathes and thrives on his unfaltering passion for music. His DJ performances are flawless and he never dictates his own tastes to the crowd, instead he is aware and in tune with their reactions, making him incredibly popular with the coolest underground clubbers and big room house lovers alike. His tight mixes and twisted sounds mean no-one ever vacates the dancefloor dissatisfied. Switching from jackin house to sleazy tech-house, to dirty electro with the odd old classic thrown in, Filthy Rich delivers perfection on the decks time after time.

Like only the truly determined can, Rich has effortlessly risen to the top with skill and precision. Over the years this has earned himself prestigious residencies with international brands such as Kissdafunk, the glamorous Hat Club, and underground masters VeryVeryWrongIndeed. He is a bi-monthly regular spinning at London’s Ministry of Sound supporting the likes of Roger Sanchez and Steve Angello, proving he has the versatility to crowd-please wherever he goes.

The Filthy Rich infamy is rapidly swelling around the globe. In the last year his international dates have included such far-flung hotspots as India, Mexico, Ukraine, Dubai, Denmark, Brazil, Israel & Miami.

A multi-dimensional artist, Rich is known not only for his dancefloor triumphs but also for a cache of hot production. His talent and skills in the studio have seen his tracks signed to CR2, Toolroom’s Leaders label, Big Love, Nervous, Audio Damage and Dutch imprint Spinnin.

In total, Rich has clocked up an electrifying discography of over 50 productions and re-mixes. In addition to being played on Radio 1 and gaining support from the likes of Steve Lawler, Tiesto and Carl Cox, he has also completed winning remixes for artists including Peter Gelderblom, Sidney Samson, and Seamus Haji.

Rich is also one half of the incredibly respected techno d.o.n.s ... SPEKTRE specialising in driving techno. Spektre’s razor-sharp beats in both their DJ sets and live performances have drawn favour from heavyweights like Sven Vath, Carl Cox, Dubfire, Laurent Garnier and James Zabiela. Spektre experiments unmercifully with new sounds, their releases and live sets have been menacing dance floors ever since the project was born. Their productions have featured on Renaissance, Global Underground, Yoshitoshi, Great Stuff and Blufin as well as releasing a ‘Live At Glade Festival’ album on VVVWI.

The future is set to hold an abundance of tempting offerings from the Filthy Rich studio - with his thirst for new music and a whole host of tricks up his sleeve. Rich’s strength is his diversity and this ensures he is going straight to the top. Without a spare date in sight for the next six months, it’s clear, when it comes to Rich, rules are made to be broken and the future is FILTHY.

AUDIO INJECTION ::

Since being introduced to electronic music back in the early 90's, Audio Injection has been hooked. At the early age of 15 he started Djing and playing out at local underground events and raves around the Southern California area. You would find him spinning various styles from house, acid, & techno to hardcore techno.

After years of Djing he then decided to learn to produce his own music, which landed him releases on techno labels such as Monoid, Stimulus, & local label Droid Recordings. Since being associated with local event production group Droid Behavior in 2003, you can find him as a resident at the infamous Interface warehouse events as well as a regular producer for Droid Recordings along with Drumcell (Co-Founder of Droid Behavior). He has also played alongside Drumcell and Chris Liebing at the world famous Berghain club in Berlin, Germany.

With releases & remixes on labels such as Droid, CLR, Electric Deluxe, Sleaze, Monocline, Circle Music, Tora Tora Tora, Smallroom, Impact Mechanics, Lazerslut, Enemy, Phobiq, Timefog, Prosthetic Pressings and many more. Audio Injection continues to shape his own sound as well as collaborate with Drumcell to release more mind bending techno, putting Los Angeles & Droid Recordings on the techno map.

RED SONYA ::

Sonya Lynn, aka Red Sonya, has performed at various underground events, festivals, lounges, and clubs in Southern California and abroad. In San Diego, she has held multiple DJ residencies at Airport Lounge, Red C Lounge, L5, and Kava Lounge to name a few. From 2001 to 2006, she was an member of the Vinyl Elements Crew. She dj’ed, promoted and helped produce “Reaction” which ran for over 4 1/2 years at the Honey Bee Hive. Since 2007, Red Sonya has been leading Lady Lush, a production company featuring a group of talented female DJ’s, Sonya’s promotions, and art direction from Andre Couturier Maitret. In 2010, Red Sonya made the move to LA with fellow producer & DJ, Alien Tom, and was happily inducted into the locally loved Pocket Underground Crew. Although LA is her home base, you can still catch her dj’ing at her monthly residency “Fresh Cuts” at Miso Harney in Old Town San Diego every 4th Saturday. A short list of dj’s Sonya has shared the decks with includes Garth, Diz, Luke Soloman, Gavin Hardkiss, Jamie Thinnes, Dizzy, Halo, Jon Tejada, Hector Moralez, Z-trip, and Reid Speed.

ZACH MOORE ::

In late 2006 after joining the renowned Burning Man sound camp, The Deep End, Zach began to truly harness his potential as a DJ. Backed by The Deep End’s stellar name and reputation, he began landing gigs with many of San Francisco’s top promoters (Spundae, Seismic, Opel Productions, Satellite, Qool and Flirty-Flirty) at the city’s best-known venues (111 Minna, Mighty, Shine, Anú, 1015 Folsom, The EndUp, Supperclub, The Fillmore and The Warfield) while sharing the bill on occasion with some of the world’s finest DJs (Meat Katie, Dylan Rhymes, The Plump DJs, The Stanton Warriors, Plaza de Funk, The Rogue Element and the 16 Bit Lolitas).

After three fruitful and rewarding years with The Deep End, Zach joined forces with The Space Cowboys (spacecowboys.org), another famed San Francisco-based Burning Man crew, in January 2010. Zach embraced this new partnership by launching, The RIPEcast (http://bit.ly/TheRIPEcast), a weekly podcast featuring most notably live recordings from the Cowboys’ 10th Annual Breakfast of Champions New Year’s Day party.

Over the years Zach’s love for electronic music has run the gamut (deep, vocal, tech, progressive & electro house, breakbeat and techno) but of late the focus of his live sets and recorded mixes has been the breakbeat, electro house and tech funk genres. Among his favorite artists Zach counts The Stanton Warriors, DeeKline, Elite Force/Zodiac Cartel, Meat Katie, Dylan Rhymes, Soul of Man, Slyde, The Beat Assassins and Krafty Kuts.

LOOSE VILLAGE ::

A native to the Southern California land, Keith Craig, AKA Loose Village, has been into electronic dance music for some time now. “I blame it on Disneyland”, he laughs. “I was in middle school, had a Disneyland pass and that’s where I fell in with the ravers.” He first caught a glimpse of this unique art form after staying up late one night when MTV's Amp came across the television screen. After countless VHS recordings of the show and hanging out with his new found rave friends, he decided to take a swing at producing dance music. “A good friend of mine hooked me up with Fruity Loops and it was all over from there, but I eventually moved onto Reason and Ableton.” Now having done so for the past 11 years, he has developed an obscure blend of heavy drum programming and a hunt for wildlife. “I used to play and produce under the name Nytel. I was making more synth based music, remixing bands and what not, but now I feel like I’ve come back around.”Submitting his first demo across the acclaimed Sound Cloud web service, he was picked up by the San Francisco artist Worthy, for his Anabatic label. The release entitled Kamuela Mandelagarnished worldwide recognition and received play from artists such as X-Press 2, Mark Knight, & Karotte just to name a few…
