Caladan IX - "Bringin' It Home"

July 7, 2007

The Story:

Once upon a time about eight years ago, there was this party called Dune and ... no, wait! You've heard this story a thousand times. This year though, our story takes a different turn.

Caladan has happened for the past eight years. We're on our ninth one. In the history of the desert and renegade party crews, that's an eternity. We've outlasted alot of our brethren and we've seen new crews come and grow. We've seen older crews keep going strong and others slowly fade away. We've been busted by the man. We've lost partners-in-crime. We've been around a long ass time.

The first Caladan happened at a special time in most of our lives. We were new to the scene, new to partying. Many of us had never thrown a party before. Some of us were old and jaded. It took all kinds of people to make Caladan I happen. We met many new friends and bonded with old ones in different ways. It was a truly pivotal experience in many of our lives and has had a huge impact on the almost decade of time that has passed since it first began.

And it is exactly when a decade has passed that Caladan will be no more. You heard correctly - after Caladan X, we're done. The Stormrdiers will still throw other events and make the occasional trek to the desert, but
as far as Caladan goes, ten will be the last. We've decided that if Caladan is ever going to end, it's going to end on our terms.

There's a certain burden that gets lifted from your shoulders when you take fate into your own hands. Caladan isn't going to slowly fade away like other events. Caladan isn't going to just abruptly end one year. We *know* when the end is coming and we're planning for it. These next two Caladans we are going to literally blow the roof off of the desert and launch the sun into the sky!

We need all of your help to make it happen - to help us write the last two chapters in a bad-ass book and to end things the only way we know how. This will mark not only the end of one phase of our lives, but the beginning of an entirely new one. Seasons change.

Come join us in the desert and help us do this right. We're teaming up with Ninja Skillz once again and visiting an old location that has fond memories for many of you. We are going to do this proper.

Lineup:

Sumbry (Stormriders) vs. Rhines (Ninja Skillz)
Chip (Stormriders) vs. JP (Ninja Skillz)
Dirty D (Stormriders) vs. Mark Zabala (Ninja Skillz)
Giant Octamarc (Stormriders) vs. Saynt (Ninja Skillz)
Ma Buddha (Stormriders) vs. Phildog (Ninja Skillz)
Scribe (Stormriders) vs. Guardian (Ninja Skillz)

Things to Know:

- There will be a donation box in front of the dj booth. SR has a bad habit of having such an awesome time at these events that we forget to collect donations - so we're asking for your help.

- We are using a previous location from long, long ago. Some of you have very fond memories of this place. Time to make even fonder ones. It's off the 14 freeway for your planning needs.

- There will be a booty juice bar manned by Chip. You bring the booze and he will bring the booty. Our booty juice bar is funded by alcoholic beverage donations - so help us by donating a bottle or case.

- We need shade structures. We'd like to enjoy our time in this location and not leave at the first sight of sunlight, so if you have 'em, bring 'em. You can help us by replying to planning -at- thestormriders -dot- com and letting us know if you have a shade structure that you'd like to bring.

* Stay tuned for more information. Final directions will be sent out to the SR and Ninja Skillz Event List. If you're not subscribed or were forwarded this email, contact sumbry -at- sumbry -dot - com and ask to be subbed to the SR Events list.

Not sure where to post this - if someone knows a better place please do so.

There is a large fire where Caladan is supposed to be; just got back home. The freeway leading to Caladan is closed.

    Anyone know whats going on?
